That was the last official word we had heard about the game, about two months ago. Soon after that it was announced that Sumo Digital, the folks behind the Sonic racing games and LittleBigPlanet 3, would be taking over. According to official comment, publisher Deep Silver and the developer could not agree on a “vision” for the game and so the project was put on the back burner. However, as time went on it seemed less and less likely that Dead Island 2 was going to make its announced 2015 release date, and eventually the game was put on indefinite hold. Originally announced back at E3 2014, Dead Island 2 was to be a Yager Development product, from the folks that brought us the critically acclaimed war shooter Spec Ops: The Line. Couple that with the fact Dead Island 2 has been in development limbo for quite some time and it seems more likely than not that the game has been put on hold. While the removal of a Steam page is by no means a smoking gun when it comes to game cancellations, it is usually not a good sign. Most recently, eagle-eyed gamers have discovered that the game’s steam page has since been removed. The removal of the Dead Island 2 Steam page has fueled speculation that the long-in-development zombie-killing sequel might be on indefinite hold after switching developers.Īlthough publisher Deep Silver has yet to make anything official, the evidence continues to mount suggesting Dead Island 2 has been cancelled.
